Art
Most would assume art during The Great Depression portrayed the time period, and illustrated the struggles Americans and the world had trying to survive. However, some artist tried to portray a hopeful attitude towards their paintings to spread hope to all the people suffering during these times. For example they would paint scenes of baseball stadiums and workers to display hope for a better time to come. Other artists did not take this path and would create art that were dark and dull, to symbolize the time period. Apparently the weather didn't help inspire those artist that created such depression art to be hopeful because the weather was also dark and depressing most of the time. Besides traditional art, political cartoons described this time period. Most cartoons would poke fun at the upper class and how they were dealing with this time period, others would use humor to blame this all on President Hoover and the government. During the Great Depression and even before there was a bloom in African American culture, mostly involving art. African Americans now embraced their race and their own unique culture. This explosion in African American culture and confidence was known as the Harlem Renaissance.
